DULLES CORRIDOR METRORAIL PROJECT - PHASE 2
Lane Closures will take place on the Dulles Airport Access Highway, Dulles Toll Road and Sunset Hills Road the Weekend of March 23-25
The following lane/road closures are scheduled to take place the weekend of March 23 to 25. All work is weather dependent and subject to change. Please see below for more detailed information.
Eastbound DIAAH and DTR:
Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, pedestrian bridge spans for the Reston Silver Line Station will be installed over the eastbound Dulles Toll Road (DTR) and the eastbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH). The work will require a full closure of the eastbound DTR and lane closures on the eastbound DIAAH (including a 10-20 minute traffic stoppage on the DIAAH on Saturday night only), between the Route 28 and Reston Parkway overpasses.
Sunset Hills Road:
Sunday night, March 25, eastbound Sunset Hills Road, between Town Center Parkway and 12011 Sunset Hills Road, will be closed. The left lane of westbound Sunset Hills Road will be closed and eastbound traffic will be directed to the left lane of westbound Sunset Hills Road.
Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH) East
When: Friday, March 23, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Saturday, March 24, 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What: Right lane closed
Where: From mile marker 4.5 to 5.7 (from 4/10 mile east of the Route 28 overpass to 4/10 mile east of the Reston Parkway overpass)
Why: Civil work
When: Friday, March 23, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Saturday, March 24, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
What: Traffic reduced to a single lane
1. Single lane traffic from mile marker 2.0 to 5.7 8/10 mile east of
Route 28 overpass to 4/10 east of theReston Parkway overpass)
2. ALL traffic bound for Centreville Road, Fairfax County Parkway
and Reston Parkway will detour onto the Dulles Toll Road east at
mile marker 1.6. (The slip ramp to the east Dulles Toll Road at mile
3. On Saturday night only, near midnight, police will conduct
a full traffic stoppage of 10-20 minutes.
Why: Overhead installation of Reston Station pedestrian bridge spans (see related DTR east detour below).
Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH) West
When: Friday, Mar. 23, 6 p.m. to 5 a.m
Saturday, Mar. 24, 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What: Alternating right and left lane closures. Saarinen Circle exit to Copilot Way ramp will remain open
Where: From mile marker 0.0 to Copilot Way (from the Aviation Drive overpass to just beyond the Copilot Way exit ramp)
Why: Dulles Airport Station water line work continues
Dulles Toll Road East
When: Friday, Mar. 23, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Saturday, Mar. 24, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
What: Full Detour
Where: From mile marker 2.0 to 5.5. Detour: Eastbound Dulles Toll Road traffic will be detoured onto the Fairfax County Parkway south exit, to Sunrise Valley east, to Reston Parkway north, to re-enter the Dulles Toll Road east.
Why: Overhead installation of Reston Station pedestrian bridge spans (see related east DIAAH lane closure information above).
Sunset Hills Road Drive East and West
When: Sunday, March 25 - Wednesday, March 28, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What: Full closure of eastbound lane between Town Center Parkway and 12011 Sunset Hills Road. DETOUR: Westbound Sunset Hills Road will be reduced to one right thru lane and eastbound traffic will be diverted to the right lane of westbound Sunset Hills Road. Traffic control devices will be in place. Police will direct traffic at intersections.
Where: Between Town Center Parkway and 12001 Sunset Hills Road
Why: Delivery and installation of Reston Station support facility
Drivers are asked to use caution and remain attentive to all signage and barricades. Large, slow-moving vehicles may be exiting and entering the roadway at various times. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
