Important Lane and Ramp Closures for the
Week of April 23 - April 29
 
Phase 2 Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project crews are continuing road widening and striping, lane shifting, utility work, excavation and other construction activities, including the removal of the Herndon Station tower crane, for the Metrorail Silver Line, Phase 2. Lane, shoulder, road and ramp closures will occur along the Dulles Toll Road (DTR), Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH), Dulles Greenway and Dulles Airport roads during the week of April 23 - April 29. In addition, lane closures will occur along the Phase 1 alignment.
 
SPECIAL NOTICE:  Tower Crane Removal from Herndon Station Site - Weekend of April 28On or about Friday, April 28, at 10 p.m. through Monday, May 1, at 5 a.m., the tower crane at the Silver Line's Herndon Metrorail Station will be disassembled and removed from the median of the Dulles International Airport Acess Highway (DIAAH).  This activity will detour eastbound DIAAH traffic onto the eastbound Dulles Toll Road between the Centreville Road bridge and the Fairfax County Parkway overpass for the duration of the weekend.  Lane closures will also occur on the eastbound Dulles Toll Road (DTR) and the westbound DIAAH.

Drivers are asked to use caution remain attentive to all signage, barricades and speed limits, and obey all police and flagger instructions.

Dulles Toll Road East
 
When:   Sunday, April 23, and Monday, April 24, 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Close left lane
Where:  From Route 123 overpass to Idylwood Road overpass
Why:     Flushing, videotaping of storm drains
 
When:   Monday, April 24 - Friday, April 28, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
               Saturday, April 29, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From mile marker 1.3 to 3.3 (from 1/10 mile past the Route 28 overpass to 1/10 mile before the Monroe Street overpass)
Why:     Civil work
 
When:   Friday, April 28, at 10 p.m. through Monday, May 1, at 5 a.m.
What:    Left lane closed
Where:  From mile marker 2.7 to 4.0 (between the Centreville Road and Fairfax County overpasses) Detour:  Eastbound DIAAH traffic will be detoured to the left lane of the eastbound Dulles Toll Road at mile marker 2.7 and detoured back to the DIAAH at mile marker 4.0.
Why:     Removal of Herndon Station Tower Crane

Where:  From mile marker 3.3 to 5.2 (from 1/10 mile before the Monroe/Van Buren Street overpass to the Reston Parkway overpass)

What:    Close right lane

Dulles Toll Road West
 
When:   Monday, April 24 - Friday, April 28, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
               Saturday, April 29, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From mile marker 6.0 to 3.4 (from approximately 2/10 mile after the Wiehle Avenue overpass to 2/10 mile before the Monroe Street overpass)
Why:     Civil work
 
When:   Monday, April 24 - Friday, April 28, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
               Saturday, April 29, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From mile marker 3.3 to 1.5 (from 1/10 mile past the Monroe/Van Buren Street overpass to 3/10 mile before the Route 28 overpass)
Why:     Civil work
 
Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH) East
 
When:   Friday, April 28, at 10 p.m. through Monday, May 1, at 5 a.m.
What:    Full road closure
Where:  From mile marker 2.7 to 4.0 (between the Centreville Road and Fairfax County overpasses) Detour:  Eastbound DIAAH traffic will be detoured to the left lane of the eastbound Dulles Toll Road at mile marker 2.7 and detoured back to the DIAAH at mile marker 4.0.
Why:     Removal of Herndon Station Tower Crane
 
When:   Monday, April 24 - Friday, April 28, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Saturday, April 29, 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From Saarinen Circle to mile marker 5.7 (5/10 mile past the Reston Parkway overpass)
Why:     Civil work
 
When:   Monday, April 24 - Saturday, April 29, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Full closure begins at 10 p.m.; follow detour. Road reopens at 5 a.m.
Where:  From Saarinen Circle to mile marker 0.4 (near the Rudder Road overpass)

Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH) West
 
When:   Monday, April 24 - Friday, April 28, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
               Saturday, April 29, 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From mile marker 5.7 to 0.0 (from 5/10 mile before the Reston Parkway overpass to 5/10 mile past the Rudder Road overpass)
Why:     Civil work
 
When:   Saturday, April 29, and Sunday, April 30, from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What:    Left lane closed
Where:  From mile marker 4.2 to 3.4 (between the Fairfax County Parkway and Monroe Street overpasses)

Where:  From 1,000 feet before the Dulles Toll Road exit to Great Falls Street overpass

When:   Wednesday, April 26, and Thursday, April 27, 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Close left lane
Where:  From 100 feet before the Great Falls Street overpass to 1,000 feet past the Haycock Road overpass

Aviation Drive/Cargo Drive
 
When:   Monday, April 24 - Saturday, April 29, 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures
Where:  From 300 feet west of Autopilot Drive to Copilot Way (along the transition from westbound Aviation Drive to southbound Cargo Drive)
Why:     Duct bank work
 
Package Court East and West
 
When:   Monday, April 24 - Saturday, April 29, 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Closed
Where:  From Air Freight Lane to the Cargo 5 circulator road.  Follow detour through Cargo 5 parking lot.
