Important Lane and Ramp Closures for the
Week of May 13 - 19
 
Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project crews continue construction activities for the Metrorail Silver Line, Phase 2, including lane, shoulder, road closures and detours at locations along the Dulles Toll Road (DTR), Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH), the Aviation Drive Bridge at Dulles Airport, Dulles Greenway, Reston Parkway, and Herndon Parkway, Sunrise Valley Drive, Sunset Hills Road during the week of May 13 - May 19. In addition, there will be a lane closure along Route 123 near McLean Station.
 
Dulles Access Highway and Dulles Toll Road East: Construction activities at the Innovation, Herndon and Reston Metrorail Stations will continue to require nighttime closures on the eastbound Dulles Access Highway. During the closures, traffic will be detoured onto the eastbound Dulles Toll Road then returned to the Access Highway after the construction zone.
 
See below for more specific dates, times and details and remember that all work is weather permitting.
 
PLEASE USE CAUTION and remain attentive to all signage, barricades and speed limits, and obey all police and flagger instructions. Slow-moving vehicles and equipment may be entering and exiting the highways and surrounding roads.

Dulles Toll Road East and Dulles Access Highway East
 
When:   Monday, May 14 - Friday, May 18, 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
             Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20, 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. (weather back-up dates)
What:    Full closure of a section of the eastbound DIAAH
Where:  From mile marker 0.8 to 5.1 (between 3/10 mile east of the Rudder Road overpass between the Centreville Road and Fairfax County Parkway overpasses) Detour: Eastbound DIAAH traffic will be diverted onto the left lane of the eastbound Dulles Toll Road and then returned to the eastbound DIAAH beyond the construction activity. No toll will be charged to drivers detoured from the DIAAH to the DTR.
Why:    Construction activities at Innovation, Herndon and Reston Stations.  
 
Dulles Toll Road East
 
When:   Monday, May 14 - Friday, May 18, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
             Saturday, May 19, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From mile marker 1.3 to 5.7 (from just west of the Route 28 overpass to the Reston Parkway overpass)
Why:    Civil work
 
Dulles Toll Road West
 
When:   Monday, May 14 - Friday, May 18, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
             Saturday, May 19, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From mile marker 5.7 to 1.5 (from approximately 2/10 mile after the Wiehle Avenue overpass to 3/10 mile before the Route 28 overpass)
Why:    Civil work
 
Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH) East
 
When:   Monday, May 14 - Friday, May 18, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Saturday, May 19, 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From mile marker 0.0 to 5.7 (from the Aviation Drive overpass to 5/10 mile after the Reston Parkway overpass)
Why:    Civil work
 
Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH) West
 
When:   Monday, May 14 - Friday, May 18, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 5 a.m
Saturday, May 19, 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From mile marker 7.3 to 0.0 (from approximately 7/10 mile west of Hunter Mill Road to approximately 200 feet beyond the Copilot Way ramp on Saarinen Circle near the Dulles Airport Terminal)
Why:    Civil and Dulles Metrorail Station work will be taking place within the closures
 
Aviation Drive East
 
When:   Monday, May 14, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What:    Right lane closure
Where:  From the Aviation Drive bridge to Windsock Drive
Why:    Civil work
 
Dulles Greenway East
 
When:   Monday, May 14 - Friday, May 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
             Saturday, May 19, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
What:    Alternating left and right lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  Lane closures between mile markers 7.6 and 14.0 (between Exit 5/Claiborne Parkway and Exit 7/Loudoun County Parkway)
Why:    Civil work
 
Dulles Greenway West
 
When:   Monday, May 14 - Friday, May 18, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Saturday, May 19, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
What:    Alternating left and right lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From mile marker 12.2 to 7.6 (begin approximately 3/10 mile west of the Main Toll Plaza and near the Broadlands Boulevard overpass)
Why:    Civil work
 
Sunset Hills Road East
 
When:   Monday, May 14 - Thursday, May 17, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
             Friday, May 18, 9:30 a.m. to noon
What:    Right lane closed
Where:  From 400 feet west of Town Center Parkway for approximately 3/10 of a mile
Why:    Civil work
 
Sunrise Valley Drive East and West
 
When:   Monday, May 14 - Thursday, May 17, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
             Friday, May 18, 9:30 a.m. to noon
What:    Right lane closed
Where:  From Thunderchase Road to 200 feet beyond Hitchcock Drive
Why:    Civil work
 
Reston Parkway
 
When:   Monday, May 14 - Thursday, May 17, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
             Friday, May 18, 9:30 a.m. to noon
What:    Right lane closed north and south Reston Parkway
Where:  At the intersection of Sunrise Valley Drive and Reston Parkway
Why:    Civil work
 

Herndon Parkway East

 
When:   Monday, May 14 - Thursday, May 17, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
             Friday, May 18, 9:30 a.m. to noon
What:    Right lane closure
Where: From 1000 feet east of Van Buren Street to 800 feet west of Exchange Place
Why:    Civil work
 
Route 123 South
 
When:   Monday, May 14, through Friday, May 18, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
What:    Close right turn lane
Where:  From 500 feet after Scotts Crossing Road to Capital One Tower Drive
Why:     Road and underdrain repairs
