Important Lane and Ramp Closures for the
Week of Oct. 29 - Nov. 4
 
Phase 2 Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project crews are continuing road widening and striping, lane shifting, utility work, excavation and other construction activities for the Metrorail Silver Line, Phase 2. Lane, shoulder, road and ramp closures will occur along the Dulles Toll Road (DTR), Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH), Dulles Greenway, Dulles Airport roads, and surrounding roads during the week of Oct. 29 - Nov. 4.
 
See below for more detailed information.  All work is weather permitting.
 
Drivers are asked to use caution remain attentive to all signage, barricades and speed limits, and obey all police and flagger instructions. Slow-moving vehicles and equipment may be entering and exiting the highways and surrounding roads.

Dulles Toll Road East
 
When:   Monday, Oct. 30 - Friday, Nov. 3, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
             Saturday, Nov. 4, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From mile marker 1.3 to 5.2 (from 1/10 mile past the Route 28 overpass to the Reston Parkway overpass)
Why:     Civil work
 
When:   Wednesday, Nov. 1 - Thursday, Nov. 2, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Two left lanes closed
Where:  From mile marker 3.0 to 4.0 (from 4/10 mile past the Centreville Road bridge to 2/10 mile before the Fairfax County Parkway overpass)
Why:     Utility work
 
When:   Friday, Nov. 3 - Saturday, Nov. 4, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
What:    Three left lanes closed, then full closure
Where:  Left lane closures on the eastbound DTR will begin at 8 p.m. at mile marker 1.7 (near the mainline toll booth). The slip ramp from the eastbound DIAAH to the DTR at mile marker 2.7 (after the Centreville Road bridge) will be closed.  Signage will be in place to direct Fairfax County Parkway traffic to the slip ramp at mile marker 1.8 (immediately after the mainline toll booth). Eastbound DTR traffic will be reduced to a single lane between the Centreville Road overpass and the Monroe/Van Buren Street overpass, then diverted through the Herndon-Monroe Park & Ride.  Traffic will return to the eastbound DTR 1/10 mile before the Fairfax County Parkway overpass with all lanes open to traffic.  Follow detour.

Dulles Toll Road West
 
When:   Monday, Oct. 30 - Friday, Nov. 3, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
             Saturday, Nov. 4, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From mile marker 5.7 to 1.5 (from approximately 2/10 mile after the Wiehle Avenue overpass to 3/10 mile before the Route 28 overpass)
Why:     Civil work
 
When:   Friday, Nov. 3 - Saturday, Nov. 4, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
What:    Single lane closures start at 8 p.m., transitioning to full closure at 10 p.m.
Where:  Left lane closures will begin near mile marker 4.0 (west of the Fairfax County Parkway overpass).  At 10 p.m., all traffic will be diverted to local roads at Centreville Road (Exit 10, mile marker 2.6). Follow detour to Centreville Road South, Frying Pan Road West and Route 28 North to access Dulles International Airport and the Dulles Greenway.

Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH) East
 
When:   Monday, Oct. 30 - Friday, Nov. 3, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
             Saturday, Nov. 4, 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From Saarinen Circle to mile marker 5.7 (5/10 mile past the Reston Parkway overpass)
Why:     Civil work
 
When:   Monday, Oct. 30 - Friday, Nov. 3, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Two lanes closed, then full closure
Where:  From Saarinen Circle to mile marker 0.4 (near the Rudder Road overpass).  Lane closures begin at 7 p.m. Full closure begins at 10 p.m. Follow detour.

Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH) West
 
When:   Monday, Oct. 30 - Friday, Nov. 3, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
             Saturday, Nov. 4, 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  From mile marker 5.7 to 200 feet past the ramp to Copilot Way on Saarinen Circle (from 5/10 mile before the Reston Parkway overpass to 6/10 mile past the Rudder Road overpass)
Why:     Civil work
 
When:   Monday, Oct. 30 - Friday, Nov. 3, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Two lanes closed, then full closure
Where:  From mile marker 0.3 to Saarinen Circle (from 2/10 mile past the Rudder Road overpass to Saarinen Circle near Garage 1), lane closures begin at 7 p.m.  At 10 p.m., traffic will be diverted around work area.
Why:    Aerial guideway construction
 
When:   Friday, Nov. 3 - Saturday, Nov. 4, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
What:    Full closure
Where:  From mile marker 9.0 to 1.8 (from 2/10 past the Beulah Road overpass to 6/10 mile before the Route 28 overpass). Follow detour to westbound DTR. At mile marker 2.6, all traffic will be diverted to local roads at Centreville Road (Exit 10). Follow detour to Centreville Road South, Frying Pan Road West and Route 28 North to access Dulles International Airport and the Dulles Greenway.

Dulles Greenway East
 
When:   Monday, Oct. 30 - Friday, Nov. 3, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
             Saturday, Nov. 4, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  Between mile marker 7.6 and 14.0 (from Broadlands Boulevard to the end of the ramp to the eastbound Dulles Toll Road), short lane closures of varying lengths will occur
Why:     Civil work
 
When:   Monday, Oct. 30 - Friday, Nov. 3, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:    Two right lanes closed OR two left lanes closed
Where:  From mile marker 10.0 to 12.0 (from 2/10 mile past the Loudoun County Parkway overpass to 4/10 mile before the mainline toll plaza)

When:   Monday, Oct. 30 - Friday, Nov. 3, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
             Saturday, Nov. 4, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
What:    Alternating right and left lane closures of varying lengths
Where:  Between mile marker 12.2 and 7.6 (from 2/10 mile past the mainline toll plaza to Broadlands Boulevard), short lane closures of varying lengths will occur

What:    Alternating right and left lane closures
Where:  From Rudder Road to the Hertz car rental facility

When:   Monday, Oct. 30 - Thursday, Nov. 2, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Where:  From Thunder Chase Drive to 200 feet past Hitchcock Drive

Sunset Hills Road East
 
When:   Monday, Oct. 30 - Thursday, Nov. 2, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
             Friday, Nov. 3, 9:30 a.m. to noon
What:    Right lane closed
Where:  From 400 feet west of Town Center Parkway to 600 feet east of Town Center Parkway
Why:     Civil work
 
Herndon Parkway East
 
When:   Monday, Oct. 30 - Thursday, Nov. 2, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
             Friday, Nov. 3, 9:30 a.m. to noon
What:    Right lane closed
Where:  From 1,000 feet east of Van Buren Street to 800 feet west of Exchange Place
Why:     Utility work
